The drive burns CDs and DVDs only. It can read Blu-ray disks but not burn them. Also be aware that it is not that portable as it requires a power outlet as it does not get power from the USB port. The Source does sell a couple of blu-ray burners:
http://www.thesource.ca/estore/Search.aspx?language=en-CA&keywords=blu+ray+burner&pagenum=0

although the price is about double what they can be had for at other computer parts stores.

It only plays Blu-rays. And sadly enough as of writing this, there currently isn't a bluray burner sold on its own. I assume one will be coming soon as most stores now carry the BD-R disks.

The unit comes with a disk with WinDVD Pro 2010 OEM and Burn. Now 4 OEM. It is stamped with "Now supports Blu-ray 3D"

Not sure if it has the Mac version, but I installed it in Windows 7 and I'm sure it will work with XP.

It came with Corel winDVD which is a blu-ray player software. However, the software did not work after installing it stating that it cannot work with current driver although no updated driver was available.
